Artist Bio

Marylea Martha Quintana received her Bachelor's Degree from Smith College with a self-designed major in Cognitive Science (supported by Psychology and Computer Science), and a second major in Pure Mathematics. She then joined as a Ph.D. student in the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University, defected after two and a half years, moved to Mumbai, and pitched headlong into drawing. She returned to the U.S., and joined the Painting program of the Milton Avery Graduate School for the Arts at Bard College, from which she received her Master of Fine Arts in 2010. Her work revolves around the materials of drawing, the looply ticks of hand drawn animation, and the sticky terror between memory, observation and emotion. She has been an instructor at the Department of Art and Design at the University of Delaware, and currently splits time between her woodland home in Landenberg PA and New York City, where she collaborates with sound artist and composer Alfredo MarĂn.
